Musicals are expensive to produce and are often not feasible within the tight budgets of many small amateur theatre groups. The costs can be reduced significantly by using high quality digitally recorded backing tracks. Also, for small theatres in residential areas, the use of sequenced music means the sound (even the drums) can be kept to a minimum and the use of microphones for the cast can be avoided.

Dave Malpas has been Musical Director for many popular shows, mainly for Tynegate Theatre Group and the Tynemouth Priory Theatre. Click on the Portfolio link to the left for the full list. For most shows, he works with a drummer and the percussion and piano parts are played live to a backing track on minidisc.

Our Musical Direction services include rehearsal sessions and our support can be adapted as required for your show. If Musical Direction during the run is too expensive, we can provide the music on minidisc or flash drive which can be operated by your Technical crew.
